A word about the title of the blog (Pacific Overtures)… As some of you may know, I’m a bit of a musical theater nerd. My favorite musical theater composer is Stephen Sondheim (he’s kind of a big deal). One of his lesser known works is a little musical called “Pacific Overtures”. It chronicles the forceful opening of Japan to the west by the Perry expedition. You can read more about it here. But rather than reading about it, maybe you should just watch this number. I think it speaks for itself!
As I am here in Japan opening a new market for Optimizely, I think it’s entirely appropriate.

OMG! You are a way bigger nerd than even I knew! I tried to keep an open mind but couldn’t tolerate more than 4 minutes of this! All things being equal, I think I prefer Kabuki. At least you can drift off to sleep and escape the torture.
